Labor-only covers everything above except the lock itself. Tell us the brand and model when you call or text (a photo of the box and of your door's edge helps), and we'll tell you on the phone if it looks like a fit for your door.

Door thickness and backset get confirmed on site before any work starts. If something about your door doesn't match the lock, the tech tells you before anything comes off the door.

Our 30-day warranty covers our workmanship on the install. The lock you bought is covered by its manufacturer's warranty, not by ours.

Honest note: many smart deadbolts are designed for DIY on a standard door whose bolt already works smoothly. Call us when the old bolt sticks or drags, the door is older or non-standard, or you'd rather have it fitted, set up and tested for you.

It's Still a Deadbolt

Most smart locks are motorized deadbolts. What holds a door against force is the bolt, the strike plate and the screws into the frame, not the electronics. The smart part changes how you get in; it doesn't make the door stronger.

Arizona Heat & Batteries

Heat drains batteries faster, and afternoon sun on a west- or south-facing door is hard on keypads and screens over the years. Pick a lock rated for outdoor use, and don't ignore the low-battery warning in summer.

Keep a Mechanical Backup

Most smart deadbolts still have a keyway. Some keypad-only models don't, and rely on a battery-jump contact or your phone instead. Decide which you want before you buy, and keep the backup key somewhere you can actually reach.

Some models work with Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit, and some don't. It depends on the exact model and version, so check the packaging for the platform you use, or ask us on the call before you buy.

When Keys Change Hands Often

Smart locks earn their place where people come and go: a rental between tenants, a short-term rental between guests, a small office. Deleting a code is quicker than a rekey. If the lock also has a keyway and physical keys went out, that cylinder still needs a rekey.

There isn't one right answer; it depends on your door, your phone and how you'll use the lock. We supply and install Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo and Yale Assure. Before you choose, decide whether you want a keyway for a backup key, whether you need Wi-Fi to lock and unlock from anywhere (it uses more battery) or Bluetooth in range is enough, and which app or voice assistant it has to work with. Then check that exact model. Not sure? Ask on the call and we'll talk it through.
If you rent, the door and its hardware usually belong to the landlord, so get a written OK first and keep the original deadbolt so it can go back on at move-out. If you're the landlord, a smart lock lets you delete a code when a tenant leaves instead of rekeying, but if the lock also has a keyway and physical keys went out, that cylinder still needs a rekey.
Most smart locks warn you when the batteries are low, so replace them when they do, especially in summer, because heat shortens battery life. If they go flat anyway, you get in with the mechanical key on models that have a keyway, or with the battery-jump option on models that offer one. That's why the backup key should live somewhere you can reach. If you're ever stuck outside, a home lockout is a flat $159 (after 8PM, $219).
Yes. During the install we set up the app and your codes with you, and show you how to add and delete a code yourself. Most smart locks let each person have their own code, and many let you limit when a code works. What's possible depends on the model, so check the app's features before you buy.

Not automatically. A new smart deadbolt comes with its own keys, and keypad-only models may have no keyway at all. If the new lock has a keyway, it can often be rekeyed to match your other doors, depending on the keyway. Ask on the call and we'll tell you what's possible for your locks, and quote it before we dispatch.
